HANTAVIRUS INFECTION
Hantavirus
Hantavirus Infection is a viral disease spread mainly through contact with infected rodents such as rats and mice. The virus is present in the urine, saliva, and droppings of infected rodents. Humans may become infected when they inhale contaminated dust particles or come in contact with contaminated surfaces.
Different types of hantaviruses are found in different parts of the world. Some types mainly affect the lungs and can cause severe breathing difficulty, while others may affect the kidneys. Though the disease is uncommon, it can become serious if not identified and treated early.
The illness caused by hantavirus affecting the lungs is commonly known as Hantavirus Pulmonary Syndrome (HPS), while some other strains may cause Hemorrhagic Fever with Renal Syndrome (HFRS).
